International Association for Research onService-Learning and Community Engagement2012 Annual Conference Proceedings
for the 12th annual IARSLCE conference"Connected Knowing"Baltimore, MDSeptember 23-25, 2012

An overview of the IARSLCE conference Proceedings
Welcome to the second annual International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) conference Proceedings!

The Proceedings are co-created by the Editorial Fellows (EFs), an international group of 19 graduate students and two senior scholars who coordinated across time zones to undertake and promote a counternormative approach to research, service, and professional collaboration.

Since May of 2012, the Editorial Fellows have worked to fulfill a vision of "connected knowing" by creating these Proceedings in the form of an interactive wiki that includes summaries of the sessions from this year's conference, invites dialogue about the research, and facilitates connections and collaborations among the researchers and practitioner-scholars. The wiki format allows for networking and engagement before, during, and after the conference and provides enhanced access to scholars and scholarship from around the world.

This is the 12th year of the IARSCLE annual conference, and there are over 175 conference sessions that are organized into eight different tracks and four different session formats. You will find research about service-learning and community engagement throughout the world (e.g., New Zealand, Rwanda, Egypt, Malawi, South Africa). Session facilitators come from varied backgrounds as well: students, educators from K-12 and higher education, administrators, and community partners.

We hope the Proceedings will be a tool for fostering “connected knowing” and community building among conference participants as well as the worldwide service-learning and civic engagement community. For more detailed instructions about how the enter the conversation, visit the "How to use the online Proceedings" link on the navigation bar or click here.

Thank you for your interest and please enjoy these Proceedings!
